Melanin Medics Research Network (MMRN) was created in February 2021, and our main goal is to improve research engagement and productivity among medical students and doctors of African and Caribbean heritage. Not only would this increase black representation in medical research, but it could also improve patient outcomes, including those from deprived populations and ethnic minorities.

So far, MMRN has completed one national research project, published four PubMed-indexed original articles, presented 22 abstracts at national/international conferences, and won ten academic prizes. We are running our second national study investigating microaggressions in UK medical schools.
