Outreach & Engagement (Doctors)

The Advocacy & Engagement Officer oversees the planning and implementation of outreach strategies, resources and events to increase the organisation’s visibility amongst doctors of black heritage.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Serve as a point of contact for queries from doctors.

  • Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including educational events, networking events, outreach requests, appearances and other communication opportunities.

  • Support with event planning and delivery

  • Develop session material for outreach sessions and educational material for doctors

  • Nurture new and old relationships with collaborative partners.

  • Represent the organisation at external outreach requests focused on doctors

  • Coordinate monthly targeted newsletter to doctors

  • Advertising for and recruiting volunteers, providing them with training and support, tracking their performance, and keeping records of their activities.

  • Coordinate volunteers where required, receiving their feedback, recognizing their efforts, and answering their questions.

  • Support efforts to build relationships with potential allies (civil society, government, NGOs, research actors, etc.) to advance racial equality agenda in the medical workforce

  • Participate in internal and external advocacy meetings

  • Must play an active role in engaging in Melanin Medics Projects, for the operational year

Eligibility Criteria

  • Unwavering commitment to racial equity in medicine

  • Relevant experience organising and leading projects

  • Outstanding written communication and presentation skills.

  • Friendly, enthusiastic and positive attitude.

  • Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, a persuasive and passionate communicator

  • Experience working in a not-for-profit organisation or charity role with exposure to the not-for-profit sector would be an advantage

Organisational Relationships

  • Reports to the Director of Engagement

  • Part of the Programmes Team: outreach and engagement officers, events manager and officer

Location

Our work is focused in the United Kingdom. Our team work mainly remotely with in-person commitments for our seasonal events.


Expectation: 2-5 volunteer hours a week (varies based on roles and activities).
